The local chapter was originally chartered in 1917 to provide service in Alachua County. Within the last 10 years the Chapter has seen a marked increase in the local service area, with the Alachua County Chapter stretching to include Dixie, Gilchrist, Lafayette and Levy Counties. In 2003, Columbia, Hamilton and Suwannee Counties were added to the service delivery area for the Alachua County Chapter. Changing its name with this most recent addition, the new North Central Florida Chapter now covers 8 Florida Counties in the North Central Florida area.
